Today I felt the need to write a song. Music is a creativity that has been very illusive. I love music and I feel it deeply but I have struggled to write my own so consider myself more of a listener than a player.
Apparently that changed today. I had an urge to write, I dusted off the keyboard and couldn’t find the adaptor, so I pulled out the guitar my grandad made. It was in a case and the catch was rusted shut so I unscrewed the catch and there it was, such a beautiful thing. Made by my grandad’s hands and I can still hear my dad talking about how long it must have taken to get all those little bits of mosaic in place.
And I picked it up and I felt the strings and the sound reverberated through me and a song came to me and I wrote it quietly, carefully, patiently. Years of wanting to play and dilly dallying around and today it all came together in a song that I wrote with my voice. Life is a wonderous thing. I’ve been waiting a long time for today.
It took something quite personal to bring that out, so I’m not sharing the crude recording I made. That’s for me, for now. But, I am hoping to explore some more music when I can find time. I am embracing my wild mind of many creative outlets and little focus. I am also putting together a booklet of my poetry, but more on that later.
